How Gardening Helped Jenny

In Jenny’s journey of healing from trauma and homelessness, she found solace and strength through community gardening. Jenny, who had faced homelessness and trauma, shifted from a path towards medical school to one of survival in Denver. Despite the challenges, housing stability eventually led her back to the healthcare field. Over a decade later, while the impact of trauma lingered, a community garden program became her oasis. Tending to the earth, nurturing growth, and uniting with fellow gardeners, Jenny blossomed. Recognized as a creative leader, she spearheaded efforts to preserve their gardens, fostering connections and resilience. Through her role as the Program Training Manager at the Colorado Village Collaborative, Jenny draws on her life experiences to empower others, emphasizing the importance of self-perception beyond societal labels. For Jenny, community gardening was more than a pastime—it was a transformative journey of self-discovery and communal growth, where she found her voice, nurtured her strengths, and bloomed alongside her fellow gardeners, embodying the essence of resilience and community.

We are fortunate to have Jenny on our team!
